Introduction to Bird and Gun

  • Ideal for puppies between 4-6 months

  • A 2-week program that is designed to bring out the most in your future companion hunting dog.

  • Is the foundation for the skills your puppy will need for more advanced Gun Dog and/or Obedience training.

  • During the 2-week program, puppies will be safely introduced to cover, water, birds, and gunfire.

  • Throughout the course, your puppy’s natural instincts and drive will be enhanced, which will ultimately be the foundation for what fuels their future training ability and excitement out in the field. A dog with developed passion out in the field will be a dog that inherently has a heightened desire to please and respond to positive training.

Basic Retriever Program (2-4 month program)

Will develop the following skills:

  • Obedience commands (both verbal and whistle)

  • On and off-leash control (both in the field and in your home)

  • Voice and whistle commands

  • Force-fetch, condition retrieve, and deliver to hand

  • Hunting and quartering skills (builds on the drive established in our Introduction to Bird and Gun Program) 

  • Range control, no recall

  • Steady to shot (duck hunting)

After the completion of this program, your hunting companion will be ready to handle all basic hunting scenarios and complete at the Junior Hunt Test level in an AKC/UKC event.


Intermediate Retriever Program (additional 2-4 months)

Includes further development of all Basic Retriever Program skills
in addition to the following:

  • Advancement to longer and more difficult marks, multiple marks, diversion marks and blind retrieves.

  • Whistle and hand signals

  • Will be able to “honor” (remain in sitting position) while other dogs works

Dogs completing this program will be able to handle any situation that may arise in an advanced hunting situation. This dog would also be ready for the Senior Hunt Test level in AKC/UKC event.


Advanced Retriever Program

Includes further development of all Basic and Intermediate Retriever Program skills
in addition to the following:

  • Technical multiple marks and blind retrieves

  • Precise marking, handling and straight lines through various cover, difficult terrain and technical water.

Dogs completing this program will be ready for the Master Hunt Test level and the potential for beginning to compete in a Field Trial event
